Please don’t feel you need to race to read tons of books. Please don’t feel you need to read books faster. Please don’t feel you need to read more books to prove your validity as a book-lover. Just love books and love reading. Read what inspires you. Read a whole chapter a day or even just a page. Read fiction, read non-fiction, read a poem, read a cool recipe, read an interesting article… just enjoy reading. You don’t have to prove your love for reading to anyone else.

Don’t read or buy books you have no interest in simply because you think it will impress others. Reading is supposed to be fun, not stressful.
Don’t turn your nose up at people who have different reading tastes; or at those who prefer e-books to physical ones or paperbacks to hardbacks.
Read what you want, when you want, and how you want.
Be mindful of your bank account in the process.

And most of all, books. They were, in and of themselves, reasons to stay alive. Every book written is the product of a human mind in a particular state. Add all the books together and you get the end sum of humanity. Every time I read a great book I felt I was reading a kind of map, a treasure map, and the treasure I was being directed to was in actual fact myself.

Reading is just so important for so many different reasons. It might be an escape to someone. It might be a way to experience new places and meet new people. It might be a way to learn. To find a voice. To make friends. To connect with something, and become part of something bigger. Reading is the best and it’s different for everyone.
